Keep on walking!

Thurrock 100 may be over for this year, but you can still keep walking! Even a few minutes brisk walking every day will improve your health and make you feel better too. All ten new Thurrock 100 walks are of course waiting to be discovered: all the routes can be found here and you can download the maps […]
The final frontier!

We have just one more day to go! There’s still (just!) time to join Thurrock 100 with one last walk, this time around Grays itself – and everyone is warmly invited to join the final mile of the final walk. Meet us at Grays Town Park at 2.30pm, and we’ll process through the town, with […]
Day 7: Little Thurrock and around

The children of Thameside Primary Academy gave the walkers a fabulous musical welcome when we arrived with the flag on Wednesday afternoon!
Day 6: East & West Tilbury

Blog post coming soon!
Day 5: the gorgeous gorges

I must admit we were a little worried about today’s walk. Only 10 people had booked in advance, and there were looming black clouds and rain promised for later in the day. In the event we needn’t have worried: 27 people came along in the event, including several people who had enjoyed previous walks and […]
Day 4: around SS17

Blog post coming soon!
Day 3: Grays to Purfleet along the river

This unexpectedly interesting walk along the banks of the River Thames began early on Saturday morning at Grays railway station. A large group of sleepy walkers met at 7.30am, some still rubbing their eyes in the sun. After being introduced to the flag, with its images of the river’s wildlife and its industrial and military […]
Day 2: Big Skies walk

Another blazing day dawned on Friday morning, and we met at the Bell in Horndon-on-the-Hill, a 15th Century coaching inn with a gruesome past: a blue plaque outside told us that in 1533 a local landowner was burned at the stake here for heresy. Thankfully the Bell was more welcoming to about 30 walkers, who, […]
Day 1: South Ockendon

We couldn’t have had a more beautiful day for our first Thurrock 100 walk on Thursday morning. 30 walkers were joined by people from all over Thurrock and the Mayor, Cllr Sue Gray, who gathered to wish the walkers well and to enjoy a sneak preview of the 10 Thurrock 100 flags. We all met […]
Jeff Brazier gets wound up!

This week Essex boy Jeff Brazier got wound up in the Thurrock 100 flag to show his support for the walking festival. Prepping for his second season as panto prince at Thameside Theatre he spared a few minutes to promote the ten walks taking place around the borough from 9 to 18 July. Jeff is […]
Trevor sets himself a challenge!

Not content with walking one of the Thurrock 100 walks, Trevor Rawson of Thai Chi for Health Essex (winners of last year’s Beat the Street) has decided to set himself a personal challenge and RUN all 10 routes with his dog, Teddy, for company! But he’s anxious to stress that you don’t have to walk […]

Start walking – and turn your life around!

John Holmes, from Stanford-Le-Hope, and his wife Coral have signed up for the SS17 walk on 12th July. John, 67, who retired at 60 but still works part time as a chemistry tutor, thinks walking may have saved his life. Nearly two years ago he suffered a stroke after putting on weight when he gave […]
Snow+Rock put their boots on!

Thurrock 100 is hugely grateful to retailers Snow+Rock, who have generously agreed to support the project. The Romford outdoor specialists are supporting the project by leading one of the walks and promoting the event to their customers. They are even offering anyone who takes part in Thurrock 100 a 10% discount before the end of the project. […]
Paint a Flag this week!

We’re hard at work painting the 10 flags! Big thanks to everyone who’s come along to one of the workshops – we’re delighted with the designs. The studio will be open on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June 10am – 5pm, and then Monday 22 – Thursday 25, 12noon – 8pm. We’ve already finished some of […]
HW Wilson sign up to support Thurrock 100!

Plans for the start of the Thurrock 100 walking challenge moved on apace last week when Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Sue Gray, met representatives from HW Wilson & Co.. The South Ockendon-based builders are supporting the event by providing drinks and fruit for the walkers, as well as encouraging their staff to take part. The […]
Flag workshops underway!

Workshops in schools and community centres are taking place this week and next as Thurrock residents use their creativity to design 10 beautiful Thurrock 100 flags. These designs are some of our favourites so far! The ten flags – each representing one of the walks – will feature the buildings, landmarks, beauty spots and other […]
Help make a flag

We’re looking for creative people from all over Thurrock to help design and make ten 4m high silk flags at a series of workshops in June. You don’t need to have previous experience of batik and you don’t need to be a professional artist, but if you enjoy creative activities we’d love you to get […]
Become a walk leader

We’re looking for walking volunteers in each area to lead the walks, to be a backmarker or to lend support in other ways. We also need volunteer marshals at designated points in each area to offer encouragement and support, ensuring walkers stay on the specified route. Each walk is about ten miles long, but people are not expected to walk […]
