The T100 Festival of Walking, Talking and Making returned for 2023 with a spectacular exploration of the unique audio character of the local area: T100 Sounds.
We were very proud to work with local community members and organisations to bring T100 Sounds festival to life. Our partners, who ranged from local primary schools to arts, community and heritage organisations from across Thurrock, worked with us to plan an exciting range of walks, performances, workshops and events for this year’s programme.
True to the theme of Sounds, the festival launched with a birdsong-filled walk through the Rainham Marshes RSPB site. Following this, we undertook 15 walks across Thurrock, inviting people to join us as we explore the landscape, wildlife, rich history and residents past and present of the local area. Amongst other things, the programme saw us joining the Windrush 75 celebrations at Tilbury Port, enjoying a night of shanties at Thurrock Yacht Club, and exploring the beauty of Langdon Hills.
2023 also saw us work with people from across the community to gather sounds for a specially commissioned immersive audio installation piece, Thurrock Soundscape, which was made up of four soundscapes and presented in the stunning surroundings of St Clement’s Church, West Thurrock. You can now listen to the soundscapes on our site, here.
The festival culminated at High House Production Park in Purfleet on Sunday 9 July 2023. This exciting event welcomed hundreds from the local area for a mini festival showcasing local musicians and performers, alongside creative activities and the exciting Colourscape Festival installation.
