T100 Sounds

Sounds of Purfleet-on-Thames

Purfleet Station to St Clement’s Church, West Thurrock

Saturday 8 July 2023

Start: Purfleet Train Station, RM19 1PL

End: St Clement’s Church, West Thurrock, RM20 4AL

Starting in Purfleet, we followed the River Thames for the majority of the walk alongside the famous mile-long graffiti wall. We passed under the QEII Bridge before finishing at St Clement’s Church for the Thurrock Soundscape. Listen to the Thurrock Soundscape on our website now, click here.

The church is a Grade I listed building, which was first established on the pilgrim route. Now stunningly set against the backdrop of the industry that has sprung up around it, St Clement’s Church’s other claim to fame is it was featured in the well-known Hugh Grant film, ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.

Walkers enjoyed atmospheric views of the river, as well sightings of wetland wildlife. The route passes though some interesting areas of industry with their accompanying distinctive sounds.

T100 walks are of different lengths and on varying terrain. Some are mainly on footpaths, and others mainly on footpaths where ground may be uneven. We have designed our programme with accessibility in mind so we hope that there is something for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to discuss this, please contact nicole@kinetika.co.uk.

Please note:
We ask that people choose walks within their capabilities; the walk leaders are experienced but must take people’s word that they are sufficiently fit for the grade of walk they have chosen.

Due care has been exercised in organising the walks, however, Kinetika, the funders and associated partners of the project cannot accept liability for loss, accident or injury caused to any person following the routes, especially unsupervised. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
