Tilbury Fort Finale
‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’
Sun 1st August 2021 12.30-3pm
Tilbury Fort, Fort Road, Tilbury, Essex, RM18 7NR
This event took place as part of T100 Dreaming 2021.
Beach of Dreams, with all 500 unique silk pennants, finally returned home to Thurrock to be welcomed by T100 Festival, where the walking, talking and making model first began! These projects have succeeded in bringing hundreds of people together, exploring shared connections to place. Many joined us to celebrate the significant achievements of both projects as the final steps are taken into the Fort.
The finale featured the premiere performance of a new song ‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’, written by Anthony Joseph and Ruben Fox with Kinetika Bloco and local young people from the Gateway Learning Community and Tilbury Youth Services, inspired by the calypso of the Windrush generation ‘London is the place for me’. ‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’ is part of Shout Out Loud, English Heritage’s national youth engagement programme. Shout Out Loud is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Kick the Dust programme.
Fun workshops for all ages included puppetry, craft and a flag movement session as well as a performance from the impressive Kinetika Bloco.
