T100 Dreaming

T100 Dreaming was our 7th successful annual walking, talking and making festival!

Local people and artists were invited to come together to share their dreams, celebrate community spirit and imagine a more sustainable future.

Along with inspiration sessions for artists and creative workshops for community groups, we provided mentoring support for four new walk leaders from diverse communities in partnership with Active Essex, Essex Cultural Diversity Project & Living London. 

Last year the festival also partnered with Kinetika‘s larger creative walking event Beach of Dreams which expanded our walking, talking and making concept from Thurrock all the way up the coast to Lowestoft!

A huge thank you to all the walk leaders, stewards, local history guides, artists, businesses and venues that supported the events in all our locations.

T100 Dreaming July walks flyer

In 2021 we created a new song ‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’, written by Anthony Joseph and Ruben Fox with Kinetika Bloco and local young people from the Gateway Learning Community and Tilbury Youth Services, inspired by the calypso of the Windrush generation ‘London is the place for me’. ‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’ is part of Shout Out Loud, English Heritage’s national youth engagement programme. Shout Out Loud is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Kick the Dust programme. and artist Anthony Joseph, to create a new song, ‘Tilbury is the Place for Me’.

2021 Walks and events

East Tilbury – In Other People’s Shoes

12th June 2021 – 1pm-4pm

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 2 hours including talks / *30 minute return walk (direct)
  • Distance: 2.4 miles plus return walk 1.2 miles. Via sea wall is longer
  • Terrain: Pavements – A mixture of paved and unpaved paths.
  • Access: changes in different parts of the route, see accessibility section.

 Easy

  • Optional return route via the sea wall:
  • Grading: Moderate
  • Duration: 1.5 hour return walk
  • Distance: 3 miles
  • Terrain: A mixture of paved and unpaved paths along the sea wall, grass and woodland off road tracks.

Purfleet-on-Thames ‘Grow Your Own’

13th June 2021 – 10am-4pm

Walk 1

  • Grading: Moderate
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Distance: 3.8 miles
  • Terrain: A mixture of paved and unpaved paths as well as grassland and dirt tracks. Part of this walk involves climbing a moderate hill, one part of the decent is fairly steep and uneven. Please ensure you have appropriate footwear.
  • Access: Not accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Walk 2

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Distance: 2 miles
  • Terrain: The majority of this walk takes places on pavements however some pathways are slightly uneven and involve busy road crossings. At the beacon you will walk across a grassy area without a clear pathway but all of the walk is accessible to wheel chairs and pushchairs.
  • Access: Is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Stanford Le Hope to Thameside Nature Park

Theme: Imagination Our Nation/Connectivity

26th July 2021 – 2.30pm-5.30pm

  • Grading: Moderate
  • Distance: 4.5 miles
  • Grading: Moderate
  • Terrain: Pavements and walk ways in parts although some are quite narrow. Lots of this walk is on grassland which may be uneven especially as you get closer to the nature reserve.
  • The walk is not accessible for wheelchairs or push chairs and sensible footwear is essential. No open toe sandals
 

 Easy

Thameside Nature Park to East Tilbury

27th July 2021 – 11am – 2pm

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Distance: 3.5miles / *2.5miles
  • Terrain: For the first hour of this walk the ground underfoot is mainly gravel, there will be a small amount of grassland and some pavements.
  • Access: The walk is pushchair accessible, there are however a number of turn stiles (these are wide enough to fit a double pushchair through) and some cattle grids at the nature reserve. Some of the grassland is uneven and quite bumpy. The rest of the walk in East Tilbury is on pavements, a mixture of paved and unpaved paths.

Langdon Hills

28th July 2021 – 10am-2pm

  • Grading: Moderate
  • Distance: 4.5 miles
  • Grading:  Moderate
  • Terrain: some marked footpaths but they can become muddy and slippery, some parts of the walk are slightly off of the main pathway in a forestry terrain, hilly.

Ockendon & Little Belhus Country Park

29TH July 2021 – 11am-2.30pm

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 3.5 hours (including stops)
  • Distance: 4.2 miles
  • Terrain: flat – mixture of paved and unpaved paths
  • Access: Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs

Purfleet-on-Thames Circular

30th July 2021 – 5pm-7pm

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 0.5 hours walk 
  • Distance: 1.3 miles
  • Terrain: The majority of this walk takes places on pavements however some pathways are slightly uneven and involve busy road crossings. At the beacon we will walk across a grassy area without a clear pathway.
  • Access: One section near the start of this walk is not accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs due to some overgrown vegetation.  

Purfleet to Grays

31st July 2021 – 10am – 1.30pm

  • Grading: Moderate
  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Distance: 3.3 mile
  • Terrain: A little rough and obstacles strewn on path in places and some steps. Please bring walking stick(s) if you require support with balance
  • Access: This walk is not accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Parts of the path along the river are strewn with objects and there are some steep steps.

31st July 2021 – 1.30pm-4pm

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 0.5 hr walk
  • Distance: 1.2 miles
  • Terrain: Pavements – A mixture of paved and unpaved paths.

  • Grading: Easy
  • Duration: 2 hours including time at the Fort
  • Distance: 2.5 miles

  • Access: This walk is not accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Parts of the path along the river are strewn with objects and there are some steep steps.
