Well, well, well...
I see a big well that is 282 feet deep, filled with lots of water. I hear water dripping from a bucket on a rope. I feel tension in the rope. I smell the bucket that has been there for years. I taste bits of sand from the bricks in the wall.
There are lots of people with wells, but mine is the oldest. I found a half-crown at the bottom, but I think people will be looking for pound coins instead in 100 years. Or for bones. I imagine digging the well, dirt all over me, tired and worn out. A well gets its name from the water welling up. Dig deep enough, and it just can't help itself. Some places, you don't have to dig deep at all, because we're close to a river or on the fens. Others, you have to go down a long way.
There is a well in Bulphan, a bit down from the village hall. Chadwell St Mary of course has a well, probably holy, but it's actually the well of St Chad's brother, St Cedd. Then, of course, you have Farmer Cash's magical well, where you could buy healing Vange Water!
There's two houses in Horndon where they've got, literally, wells inside the house. One is bricked in so you'd never know, and one is just underneath the staircase. And there's the Well House Gallery... as well.
