Thurrock Pride Walk
Saturday 8 June 2024
Two options:
Start:
Meeting Point 1: Purfleet Train Station, Purfleet, RM19 1PL
Meeting Point 2: The Wharf, Wharf Road, Grays, RM17 6SZ
End: Thameside Theatre, Orsett Road, Grays, RM17 5DX
In collaboration with Thurrock’s first Pride event, being overseen by Thurrock LGBTQ+ Community Network and Arts Outburst, the walk from Purfleet-on-Thames Train Station will head along the Thames past Thurrock’s iconic graffiti wall. There will be stops along the way to share stories in relation to the flags and the theme of ‘Firsts’.
Once nearing Grays, there will be a pause at The Wharf where more walkers will join before walking up Grays High Street and finishing at the Thameside Theatre.
Walkers will be invited to hold vibrant, bespoke silk flags created by Purfleet-based, arts organisation and event partner, Kinetika, alongside members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The walk will offer a chance for community members to connect and come together to make a powerful statement of visibility, acceptance and solidarity.
Book your place to walk with us from Purfleet (booking not required to walk with us from The Wharf):

However, the walk from The Wharf (meeting point 2) is accessible, including for wheelchairs and large pushchairs
T100 walks are of different lengths and on varying terrain. Some are mainly on footpaths, and others mainly on footpaths where ground may be uneven. We have designed our programme with accessibility in mind so we hope that there is something for everyone to enjoy. If you would like to discuss this, please contact nicole@kinetika.co.uk.
Please note: Everyone needs to choose walks within their capabilities; the walk leaders are experienced but must take people’s word that they are sufficiently fit for the grade of walk they have chosen.
Due care has been exercised in organising the walks, however, T100, the funders and associated partners of the project cannot accept liability for loss, accident or injury caused to any person following the routes, especially unsupervised. Participants under the age of 16 are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.
WHAT TO TAKE
Please ensure that you are properly equipped for all walks. The weather can be unpredictable so bring waterproof clothing and/or sun hats and sun cream – it’s best to be prepared for all weather! Walking boots/shoes are recommended, but if you don’t have these please wear suitable and comfortable footwear – best to leave open-toe sandals or high heels at home. Make sure you bring snacks and a packed lunch with you, if necessary, and plenty to drink.
Toilet facilities can be accessed at The Wharf during the walk or at the Thameside Theatre at the end of the walk.
PHOTOS/ FILMING
We will be taking photographs and video of this event to promote and celebrate the project in print and online. If you do not give consent to be photographed or filmed, that’s absolutely fine, please let a member of the Kinetika team know on the day. If you take any of your own photos whilst taking part in the walk, we would love to see them. Share your photos on social media with #T100GoesWild.
