Leysdown-on-Sea to the Ferry Inn

Walk 10b of T100 Welcome to the Kitchen Table
After leaving the bustle of Leysdown-on-Sea this walk offers a sense of remoteness, taking in open and wild country all the way to the Ferry Inn mostly along the top of the sea defence embankments, which provide good views over the surroundings. The walk passes the hamlet of Shellness, a private estate with a naturist beach, which is not on the tour! You can stop off at Harty Church en route if time allows.
Please note there is no public transport from The Ferry House Inn. It is possible to walk back to Leysdown but we recommend you bring a torch. Alternatively, please see taxi firm details below.

- Meeting point: Grassy area at the junction of The Promenade and the Leysdown Road, Leysdown-on-Sea (near Ron Wood’s Fish & Chips and the Rose and Crown)
- 5.15 pm: Registration
- 5.30 pm: Walk starts
- 7.30 pm: Walk ends at The Ferry House Inn, Harty Ferry Rd, Leysdown-on-Sea, Sheerness ME12 4BQ

- Duration: 2 hours
- Distance: Approx 5 miles
- Grading: Easy but could be muddy/ slippery in places.
- Terrain: Open and remote countryside. Although the terrain is level, the sea defence embankment is uneven and may be muddy in wet weather. There’s a short rough footpath across fields towards the end, which can be avoided on a slightly longer diversion on lanes. This walk is not accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Thurrock 100 walks are of different lengths and on different terrain. Some are mainly on footpaths, and others mainly on footpaths where ground may be uneven. If this walk doesn’t suit you, there is probably another one that will.

What to bring
Please ensure that you are properly equipped for all walks. The weather can be unpredictable so bring waterproof clothing and/or sun hats and sun cream – it’s best to be prepared for everything!
Walking boots/shoes are recommended, but otherwise please wear suitable and comfortable footwear- best to leave open-toe sandals or high heels at home. Make sure you bring a packed lunch, if necessary, and plenty to drink.
