Bird Watchers
From up here, we watch the humans as they bicker and fuss about who should be "let in". They wave angry words on sticks, and shout at each-other. We fly where we please. When the humans see we have arrived from other places, they are happy. They take photographs and tell their friends how lucky they are to have seen a visitor. Or if we nest, how happy and proud they are that we have chosen to stay.
Here on the ancient marshes is peace for all. We watch the humans as they smile in delight at the glittering dragonflies and tiny water voles. Some sit quietly with binoculars and a flask of coffee made with love. This is a place for love.
Gunfire used to ring here. Thundering, terrifying explosions, practising for war. Now there is peace, for a time. Human children play and learn, we build our nests, and fly, and watch.
